RefWorks is a web-based tool that allows you to create a personal database of references. You can add references to your account from a range of sources including Library Search and databases. It can help you compile instant reference lists from your personal database in a wide range of referencing styles - including all styles used at ARU.

Please note: Cite Them Right, 13th edition - Harvard is now available in RefWorks. However, this generates references with substantial inaccuracies. We advise using Cite Them Right, 12th edition - Harvard and edit where necessary following guidance.

Login to RefWorks

To create an account - click on 'Login to RefWorks' above. Choose 'Create an account' and follow the prompts. We recommend creating an account with your institutional login.

An overview of RefWorks features is given in our ARU RefWorks YouTube playlist.

Videos shows referencing style Anglia Ruskin Harvard Style 6.1 which is no longer used at ARU. Use the Library Referencing page and  the Referencing Styles page in this guide to choose the correct style within RefWorks.

You can continue to use RefWorks after you leave ARU - see instructions for setting up an Alumni account.

Already using RefWorks Citation Manager and being prompted to update? Please follow RefWorks instructions to upgrade to the new RCM add-in. Instructions will appear in a blue banner if you have the old version. Please see advice for removing the old version in Office 365 or Desktop Word.
